Lighting 101

Photography at its core is capturing light. Capturing the best light can make or break a photo. In this workshop, Sara will demonstrate several different types of light sources to help you choose which one is best for you, and how to use them to create your best images!

Bring your photography to the next level and finally understand how to translate light in your own images!

We’ll explore:

  • Basics of understanding light

  • Direction of light and why it matters

  • Diffused vs Harsh and best applications

  • Modifiers such as diffusers and how to use them

  • Artificial light

    • Intro to LED lighting

    • Intro to external flash

We’ll focus on techniques that are applicable across the board to any type of photography as we bring each lesson back to the core of photography: understanding light.

Sara is living out her dream as Director of the Atlanta School of Photography, providing photographic education to the amazing Atlanta community.

Sara received her first digital camera from her grandfather when she was twelve years old. Sara received her BFA in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a minor in Film and Television.

She is an animal lover, food lover, and traveler.

Sara’s photography and consultation clients include the Woodruff Arts Center, Delta, Inspire Brands, US Bank, Mailchimp and Ponce City Market.

    Our Old Fourth Ward has a dedicated parking lot. We will send out a validation code just prior to the workshop start time.

    Our Sandy Springs location has a parking deck dedicated to Northside Tower.

  • We absolutely welcome note taking! But, we also send out a link to the slide deck presentation from every workshop, so you can focus on learning.
