What You Will Learn:

  • Equipment Essentials: Understand the differences between macro and close-u photography, and the gear needed to achieve high magnification, including macro lenses, extension tubes, and lighting accessories.

  • Technical Mastery: Master key camera settings and techniques, such as controlling depth of field (using aperture settings), achieving sharp focus (manual focusing and focus stacking), and working with various lighting challenges (natural light, ring flashes, diffusers).

  • Subject & Composition: Learn how to find compelling subjects, compose striking images, and utilize elements like color, contrast, and texture to evoke emotion and create artistic, fine-art quality photographs.

  • Hands-On Practice: Engage in practical projects and real-time guidance to build the skills and confidence to capture tack-sharp, well-exposed close-up shots of everything from water droplets to jewelry and other small products.

This workshop will begin at our Sandy Springs location and end at the nearby Blue Heron Nature Preserve

Larry Winslett

Larry is a nature photographer, environmentalist, exhibitor, and along with his wife Julie, co-author of the recently published book, Wildflowers of Stone Mountain. His work has been featured in Sierra, Wilderness, and Wild Mountain Times, and is currently exhibiting at Stone Mountain Park at the new Environmental Education Center.

Larry specializes and teaches to both film and digital photographers alike in subjects ranging from wildflower and macro photography to water and nature photography. He leads his own field workshops to both local and national destinations.
