A Hidden Gem of Georgia

Tucked away on 1,600 privately held acres in one of Georgia's best-kept secrets lies a breathtaking 400-acre mill pond — a place so serene it feels like time has quietly forgotten it. Ancient cypress trees rise from the still, dark water in dramatic fashion, their gnarled knees and towering silhouettes creating a natural cathedral unlike anything you'll find at more well-known shooting locations. This is not a spot you stumble upon; it's a destination you're invited into.

A Landscape Photographer's Dream

When autumn arrives, these cypress trees ignite in a stunning palette of burnt orange, amber, and gold — colors that rival the most celebrated fall foliage in the country, yet without the crowds. The pond's glassy surface acts as a near-perfect mirror, doubling every color and every form in reflection. The result is a symmetrical, painterly world that makes even a single frame feel like a fine art masterpiece. Whether you're shooting wide-angle landscapes or zooming in on the intricate details of bark, moss, and waterline, the compositional opportunities here are virtually endless.

The Experience

This workshop is designed for the landscape photographer who craves something off the beaten path — both literally and creatively. You'll photograph from sturdy docks and along the natural banks of the pond, giving you stable footing and a variety of vantage points without ever needing a canoe or kayak. This means less logistics and more time behind the lens. Early morning light wraps the mist-covered water in a warm glow, while the golden hour sends shafts of color across the treetops and deep into the reflections below.

What to Expect

  • Guided instruction tailored to capturing reflections, fall color, and low-light water scenes

  • Intimate access to a private, 1,600-acre property few photographers ever get to visit

  • Multiple shooting locations along the banks and docks of the 400-acre pond

  • Small group atmosphere to ensure personalized attention and unobstructed compositions

  • Subjects galore — from sweeping panoramas of cypress-lined shores to intimate close-ups of moss-draped trunks and lily-dotted waterlines

Georgia's cypress ponds are among the most photogenic — and most overlooked — landscapes in the American South. While photographers flock to the mountains for fall foliage, those in the know come here, where the reflections are richer, the light is softer, and the solitude is complete. This is a place where your shutter fires not out of obligation, but out of pure awe.

Come ready to slow down, breathe deep, and make images you'll be proud to hang on a wall.
